While I recommend to fans of the series I don't recommend for people who've never played the old games. This is a prime example of what a remaster has to be like. Every aspect of the old games has been improved (without changing the original flair of the game). And even on release it had a fair price tag.
Are remastered games different?
Unlike a remake which often changes the now-dated gameplay, a remaster is very faithful to the original in that aspect (in order to appeal to that nostalgic audience) while permitting only a limited number of gameplay tweaks for the sake of convenience.
Why is it called remastered?
Remastering is the process of making a new master for an album, film, or any other creation. It tends to refer to the process of porting a recording from an analog medium to a digital one, but this is not always the case.
Are remastered versions better?
Remastering music improves the quality of the original copy of a song or album. The process aims to remove flaws from the music, to provide a cleaner, sharper, and more refined listening experience in line with modern audio standards.
